Maxon building a new site focusing on innovation and DC motors for medical devices
An investment of CHF 30 million will see a new center for innovation, R&D and production of maxon’s smallest DC motors and drives for use in medical applications.
At their headquarters in Sachseln, Switzerland, maxon motor are building a new site with construction commencing February 2017 and due for completion by the European Summer of 2018. Keeping in line with maxon’s environmental policy, the new build will have solar installation generating 180 MW hours of electricity per year and a habitat for local plants and animals.
With a focus on the medical industry, to meet future demand projections the maxon medical division will double in size. Producing the successful micro-motor (4mm in diameter) as seen in surgical robots, insulin pumps and medication delivery systems, the demand for this field has grown enormously with the advancements in technology. To meet the strict medical quality mandate, the production area will be equipped with clean rooms including a biocompatible room.
The new facility will also house research & development, complete drive systems in mechatronics and Industry 4.0 networking of production. “The new Innovation Center is a move to strengthen our Swiss headquarters in order to become stronger internationally”, says maxon CEO Eugen Elmiger.
