Tough maxon DC motors in security cameras.
Surveillance systems are relied upon to be all eyes and ears 24/7 for years on end. Those situated outdoors must be weather proof, virtually maintenance-free and as incognito as possible.
The port of Southampton in the UK sees 42 million tons of freight transported every year. British company Metham Aviation Design Limited (MAD) has installed several video surveillance systems in Southampton using maxon DC motors in their Bowler security system.
Delivering 6W of power, the motors drive the panning and tilting movements of the cameras. Fast and precise movement is achieved with speeds from 0.5 to 30 degrees per second. At 22mm diameter the DC motors are small and perfectly suited to the small design of the camera. The DC motors zero cogging torque, graphite brushes and ironless maxon winding contribute to the smooth actions of the device. For a virtual maintenance-free system the high efficiency of maxon DC motors reduces power consumption allowing batteries to last longer.
The motors tolerate temperatures from -30 to +85 degrees making them the perfect drive system for tough coastal weather conditions, industrial complexes or rail stations.
